Where Does the Money Go?

We want you to know that your contributions to your student's American Academy campus makes a huge difference!!

As most parents know, the purpose of the AALM PTO is to help build a strong community that brings our families, students and teachers together while supporting and enhancing the academic environment of our campus. Our PTO plans many of the social events that take place at our campus such as, the fall festival (trunk-or-treat), daddy & daughter dance, mother & son events, the fun run, our spring mixer or spring carnival, among others. We are also responsible for the fundraising activities that benefit our school as a whole. We feel that it is very important to be fully transparent with our families as to what those funds are used for on an annual basis. Our PTO has committed to roughly $60,000 in academic funds that goes directly back to the school to help purchase and/or maintain the programs, supplies and equipment needed to ensure our students are receiving the best education possible. These include a donation to the STEM program, software for classrooms, professional development for teachers, in-service meals for our teachers during trainings, classroom budgets, athletic and school spirit expenses, among others. After that initial academic commitment is met, we then focus on our community building events such as, the veterans day breakfast, kindergarten parent reception, Father & Daughter event, Mother & Son event, trunk or treat, etc. Once these events are budgeted for we are able to begin saving funds for other projects which help to benefit the school and our students. The larger items that we have been saving for such as, a kindergarten playground expansion and replacing the woodchips in our main playground will likely take several years of fundraising before we achieve our goal. For example, the woodchip removal and replacement would cost roughly $100,000 to complete, while the kindergarten playground expansion would cost over $50,000.While our two large fundraisers during the school year have traditionally been successful, we, as a PTO board must first meet our academic and community building responsibilities prior to banking funds towards those larger wish list items.I hope this information has been helpful in understanding where our PTO funds go and why we fundraise for the same items for multiple years. If anyone has further questions, please feel free to reach out to PTO President, Carley Flores.

How did AAPTO-LM support our community?

Money raised at our PTO sponsored events is used to fill in the gap between what is allocated by public
funding and the additional experiences and resources we want available for our children to enhance
their learning experience at school. Public funding provides basic education, but there is nothing basic
about American Academy.

These enhanced experiences and resources are one of the ways our school is
different. Like other top-ranked schools, we must continue to raise money to fund these on-going
STEAM resources.

Each year we will ask for contributions to fund our enhanced STEAM resources. Are you still using a flip
phone? Why not? Probably because there is newer, better technology to replace it. Well, we need to do
the same with our expired technology. No contribution is too small and certainly none is too large, so
please consider what your family can contribute to ensure our children are learning in a state-of-the-art
environment.

If you are not interested in participating in one of our PTO sponsored fund-raising events,
you can always donate directly by contacting the AAPTO-LM Board.
