Chapter Four Vocabulary 
 
Array: a set of objects arranged in columns and rows 
 
Associative Property: the property that states that when the grouping of factors is changed, the product remains the same: (5x4)x3= 5x(4x3)
 
Commutative Property: Any two factors multiplied together will equal the same product regardless of order: 7x8=8x7
 
Distributive Property: 5x8 = 5 (5+3) = 5x5 +5x3 

Factor: a number that is multiplied by another number to find the product 
 
Identity Property: any number multiplied by 1 is itself: Nx1=N 
 
Multiple: (skip counting) multiples of 3: 3, 6, 9 ... 
 
Product: the answer to a multiplication problem

Divide

To separate into equal groups

Dividend

The number that is to be divided in a division problem

Divisor

The number that divides the dividend

Inverse Operations

Opposite operations or operations that undo one another, such as addition and subtraction or multiplication and division

Quotient

The number, not including the remainder, that results from division
