Fun Reading for Summer by Your Campus Library and DC Libraries

*PLEASE NOTE: PARTICIPATION IN THIS SUMMER READING PROGRAM IS COMPLETELY OPTIONAL AND IS NOT REQUIRED!!*

STUDENTS ENTERING 1st or 2nd GRADE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR:
Each number on the bookmark can be crossed out or punched for EVERY 30 MINUTES of reading completed. (That is a total of 10 hours of reading for each bookmark!) Our younger students can count any time that they are being read to or time they are reading with you the parent. Audiobooks are great for this as well.

STUDENTS ENTERING 3rd-5th GRADE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR:
Each number on the bookmark can be crossed out or punched for EVERY HOUR of reading completed. (That is a total of 20 hours of reading for each bookmark!) Listening to audiobooks DOES NOT count for 3rd - 5th grade reading hours.

PRIZES:
Once students have completed a bookmark PARENTS SHOULD SIGN THE BACK OF THE BOOKMARK verifying that their student has read the hours.

Students can then return their bookmarks to their campus library at the beginning of our new school year. Each campus will have their own summer reading prizes.

Individual grade required summer reading DOES count towards bookmark hours.

Summer reading program prizes will be awarded during the first few weeks of the 2019-2020 school year.

Have a wonderful, relaxing summer and happy reading from your AA- Librarians!

American Academy will also participate in The Douglas County Libraries Foundation, where they will give $500 each to the elementary, middle, high and charter school that signs up the most readers for Summer Reading with DCL. It’s that simple!

Students (and siblings, teachers and parents) can register NOW online at //DCL.org/summer-reading. On-site registration will be available at all DCL locations once we are able to return to our buildings. Participants should include your school name and their grade when they register so your school gets credit. The Summer Reading contest runs through July 31; people can register through the last day. The winning schools will receive their $500 prizes in August.
